Xs and Os: The Fun of Football

Chapter 1

Hi, Hello!

Welcome back to From the Briarpatch! One of our goals in this space is to share conversations we are already having with each other, with you. In the hopes they are helpful, insightful, and add a little razzle dazzle to your everyday.

We hope to host a monthly “miniseries” on a variety of topics and starting today, into January, we’re doing a little football primer for all of our Swifites and other friends who might find themselves with a lot of football on the TV this time of year and not a lot of education on what is actually happening.

But don’t worry—it’s not all xs and os. It’s also about making your favorite dips and pulling out the themed napkins when you’re watching the playoffs. So we are covering all of that and more: the nuts and bolts of the big games AND how to entertain and have a grand time even if you don’t have a Phd in sports.

In this conversation we are discussing the first ever 12 team playoff to determine the national champion in college football. Here’s a copy of the bracket we discuss in the show.

Tailgate Menu

Whether you’re hanging out in the parking lot or posted up at your kitchen island, food may very well be the MVP of football watching. Here’s a couple of recipes we will be snacking on during the College Football Playoff.

Pimento cheese sausage balls. This recipe makes a ton, so freeze half of them and serve on Christmas morning with your cinnamon rolls. You’re welcome.

If you’re watching the big games at home, we cannot recommend this delicious soup enough. Bright and creamy, it’s a crowd favorite at both our houses!

Add to Cart

We happen to think festive paper tableware makes anything a party. These napkins and plates from Amazon would add the perfect bit of extra to your football watching, whether you’re hosting a crowd or not.

Thank you so much for being here! We hope you have the best holiday season and enjoy catching a game or two over the next couple of weeks.

xoxo,

Kristin and Betsy
